What a last minute rush when I heard from my dai lou that A1703 need to change company name and user folder name! It’s now 12/02/2010 5:26pm Friday (+0800 GMT) and finally everything uploaded and committed in SVN (for all our “heng dai ji mui” should be receiving my email regarding the info on the A1703 changes).

Just to share something I discovered when I wanted to change the folder name in SVN (from old folder name to new folder to sync with the LIVE environment – probably some of you know how to change). At first I just changed the folder name directly using explorer and tried to commit. However it wasn’t work for me. After few attempts on some other steps (e.g duplicate and delete the old folder) which did not give me any solution, surprisingly I saw a SVN feature called “rename” (right click the folder -> Tortoise SVN -> Rename) and decided to have a try. It helped me to duplicate the new folder (by changing the SVN path and point to the new folder name) and delete the old folder from the SVN path automatically.

NOTE: we still need to commit the new folder for others to get the latest update on the folder name.

(There are actually some other features such as “relocate” and “switch” which suits different situations respectively.)
